Apexior No 3

A single component, general purpose, black bitumen coating that provides economical protection for steel and concrete.

Berger Apexior No 3 is an anti-corrosive protective coating for steel and concrete in marine environments; e.g., anchor-chain areas. It has low moisture permeability and comes with excellent water repellence and anti-corrosive performance. It shows good resistance towards weathering, oxidation, mild acids and alkali solutions, and can be applied to a variety of substrates; e.g., steel, concrete, etc. It can be applied easily by brush, roller or spray. It is suitable for surfaces that come in contact with fresh or salt water.

Surface preparation

• Remove all wax, oil and grease by solvent cleaning in accordance to guidelines given by SSPC-SP1.
• Dry brushing to remove soluble salts, dirt and dust.
• Ensure that freshwater jetting is carried out to remove all loose contaminants and soluble salt deposition.
• Remove scale by chipping, needle gun or spot blasting. Any loose or flaking coatings should be taken back to a firm edge.
• Mechanically clean the surface using hand or power tools to a minimum standard of St 2 (ISO 8501-1:1988) or SSPC-SP2 taking care to avoid polishing the surface.
• Where necessary remove weld spatter and round off all rough weld seams and sharp edges to a smooth surface.

• Ensure that the surface is sound. Remove laitence by thorough wire-brushing, acid etching or sweep blasting. Blowholes and other defects should be filled with Solventless Epoxy Filler. Apply first coat with 10-20% dilution for better adhesion to substrate.

Application procedure

Stir contents of the can thoroughly before use. Thinning is not usually required. However, if thinning is desired, do not exceed the recommended thinning ratio.
