Navilux 4900

A single component, high solids chlorinated rubber based antifouling designed for tropical waters.

A conventional chlorinated rubber based anti-fouling suitable for use on a variety of hulls, e.g. steel, aluminium, wood, etc. It has a highly active biocides package that gives an expected anti-fouling protection of up to 18 months or more. It is tin-free and gives smooth finishing that is easy to apply. It is an easy maintenance coating with excellent performance on vessels which have long lie-up periods. It is recognized by Llyod’s Register of Shipping as a TBT-Free Anti-fouling Paint compliant with MO International Convention on the Control of Harmful Anti-fouling Systems on Ships.

Surface preparation

New vessels

  • Navilux 4900 must be applied to suitably primed substrates e.g. with Epimastic 3000HS.
  • The surface preparation of the substrate should be as per required for the primer, unless otherwise recommended by Berger Paints Representative.
  • Ensure that the specified overcoating times in between coats have not been exceeded.
  • Ensure that the surface to be over-coated is clean, dry, free from dust, grease and oil, or any other surface contaminants.

Maintenance (Over existing chlorinated rubber anti-fouling)

  • High pressure water jet or power/ hand tool clean to remove all accumulated fouling and loose and flaking coatings.
  • Allow to dry and ensure surface is thoroughly clean and existing paint system is tightly adherent before applying a tie-coat, e.g. Epimastic 3000HS.
  • Then overcoat with 2 coats of Navilux 4900.

Application procedure

Stir contents of the can thoroughly before use. Thinning is not usually required. However, if thinning is desired, do not exceed the recommended thinning ratio.
